Leaning Foxy Lady palm DISCUSSING PALM TREES WORLDWIDE

From the pic seems like your palm flew across the country unharmed. Actually,light variegation is not a bad thing. Premier has sargentii seedlings and 7gal vinifera but they don’t know how to ship. I am lousy at keeping seedlings alive let alone sargentii seedlings!

• There is a slight blonde strip but that why i asked is the green form Always green or does it have.
• Will the seed look like the one you show above, or is that just the f2?
• Mine are Veitchia Joannis that we’re planted about the same time.

• Yes the Veitchia can and has been the host, I had one growing at my former residence , it looks like a Veitchia, with yellowish petioles.
• These foxy lady palms are thirsty and it’s nearly impossible to overwater them.

Been in pots in the greenhouse for a couple years, very hard to tell. Mine are Veitchia Joannis that we’re planted about the same time. Wow that looks like a lot of growth for 6 months since planting. I wonder if the very elongated seed has more Veitchia traits and the more rounded F2 seed has the foxtail traits? Typically I find the F1 does have the hybrid vigor, except when they are very variegated. Only the variegated FL produced viable seed so far, but none of the seedlings are variegated.

• I ask because I have 3 one leaf seedlings and they all have variegation so I’m just curious if they’ll all keep this as adults
• This would happen far more quickly for you than it does for those of us in the humid tropics where the plant tissues survive on atmospheric moisture for ages before the final collapse.

I have got palms from Flouibunda and jungle music and never had the problem I had with this palm of you are going to ship palms at least learn how to pack them!!! I never said the palm looked bad I said it was basically bare root and variegated which I specifically said I didn’t want!!! He is the only one to have a problem with their foxy lady order, foxy gold and started to complain even before it was delivered. 1 of each 3 and 7 is slightly variegated with 2 of each being greens. In fact, about all the foxyladies that exhibited extreme variegation did not survive.

I moved the pot to a shadier spot in my yard and applied copious water this morning, and went home at lunch and gave it another soaking. A plant like this that makes tons of roots hates being in a pot made for Hawaii or FL. The pool fence isn’t nearly high enough for any shade for the entire plant, and it looks like the leaves are getting full sun most of the day, probably with low humidity.

Difficult losing palms, but the more palms you grow, over time, we lose some; that’s how it goes. I believe most of the time the seeds never germinate but very occasionally they do. I have some flowering/fruiting foxtails near an adonidia doing the same.

Are Foxy Lady palms sterile?

There is full green and mostly green. Exactly I believe even the green form has some at some point I saw a mature green form produce some variation. Did not notice the variegation earlier but as Jim pointed out, on the lower leaf there it is. Yeah I could tell it is 100% green as well.

For the past few months, specimens are in the 1gal pot size, with the palm being around a 1’ in height, most are variegated form. A potted palm, drought tolerant or not, needs watering much more often than one in the ground that’s established. It’s a bad combination for the palm to deal with root trauma and to fight full scorching sun at the same time. I have 2 smaller foxys, and they were sensitive to repotting; it stunted their growth for several months.
They s/b just a hard and firm as a foxtail or vetchia to be viable. The fastest way I check for viable seed is to roll the seed on concrete with my foot, giving it some moderate pressure. It took about years of seeding until some viable seed dropped. I have been growing F2 Foxy Ladies for the last 3 years.
The real bummer is that I will also eventually have to remove the other big palm in that corner of the garden because it is a Caryota that will eventually flower. I think I would be more worried about the dark weeping spots. Beautiful palm hopefully it pulls through, good luck.
